Duties

Help

As a Public Health Advisor you will:

  • Work with selected public health projects or portions of a larger public health project that is typically of limited complexity.
  • Provide basic technical assistance on routine, non-controversial projects or activities that are covered by precedent, established policy, or accepted practice.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate activities and explains program policies, procedures, activities, services, and benefits to public health personnel and other parties.
  • Provide consultation and assistance on grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and other awards to assist in meeting objectives.
  • Advise public health personnel in development of basic activities to administer an established program.

This position is subject to the confidential financial disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521). Therefore, if selected, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) to determine if a conflict or an appearance of a conflict exists between your financial interest and your prospective position with the agency. This Information will be required annually.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience providing technical advice or assistance on matters related to the improvement of public health programs or activities.

OR

Major study in Public Health or other field of study with course work directly related to the work of the position to be filled.

OR

A combination of experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. NOTE: This is a Term Appointment not to-Exceed 13 months. Term appointments may be shortened or extended up to a maximum of four years based on the needs of the agency without further competition. Subsequent employment for CDC positions must be done through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities.

Positions may be available in multiple locations across the United States, along with telework opportunities, based on the hiring agency and the agency's remote/telework/virtual work policy.

The salary listed is Rest of U.S. (RUS); Locality pay will be adjusted to reflect location negotiated after selection. Current, active duty PHS Commissioned Corps Officers interested in performing the duties of this position within the Commissioned Corps (not as a career/career-conditional employee) are encouraged to apply under the merit promotion announcement (if applicable).
