TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Full or part-time law students who have completed at least one full semester of legal study by the application deadline. In addition, graduating law students who are entering a full-time judicial clerkship, graduate law program, or qualifying fellowship may intern following law school graduation subject to eligibility rules. LOCATIONS: The Federal Bureau of Prisons may hire interns for field offices located in major U.S. cities. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana will hire for Indianapolis and Evansville, IN. The Executive Office for Immigration Review, Office of the Chief Immigration Judge will hire for Immigration Courts in cities nationwide.
SALARY: Law Student Interns are compensated under the General Schedule (GS). Federal salaries vary by geographic location. Employees assigned to high cost-of-living areas receive a percentage of their base pay as locality pay. See General Schedule (opm.gov).

Each participating hiring office independently selects interview candidates based on many elements of a candidate's background including academic achievement, law review or moot court experience, legal aid and clinical experience, and summer or part-time legal employment. The Department also considers specialized academic studies (including undergraduate and post-graduate degrees), work experience, and extracurricular activities that directly relate to the work of the Department. In addition, each hiring office considers the applicant's qualifications as they relate to its specific mission or legal practice areas. A law school transcript is required.
