Duties

Help
  • Plan, direct, and execute the complete range of audit life cycle activities of complex financial or performance audits.
  • Coordinate work with Agency management to plan, execute, and report the results of audits.
  • Develop methods to isolate and identify conditions affecting mission capability, susceptibility to fraud, and the potential for increased efficiency.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to management and program officials in audit areas of broad scope and mission impact.

Qualifications

Time in Grade:

For entry at the GS-13 level, status applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or higher grade in the Federal Service.

This position has a positive education requirement. To qualify for this position you must meet one of the basic requirements described below:

(1) Bachelor's degree in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
OR
(2) A Combination of education and experience:
at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following: Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality (This can include up to 6 hours of business law). A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination.You may need to send proof of education or of certification to be considered for this position. For the GS-13, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to GS-12if outside the Federal service.

Specialized Experience is defined as: experience conducting financial or performance audits to assess the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of programs, functions, systems, operations or financial reporting.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Qualification and time-in-grade requirements must be met within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level
