A successful candidate in this position will serve as a General Engineer Physical Scientist to serve as an Expert Plutonium Production Program Engineer managing the Los Alamos Pit Production Project.
As the General Engineer/Physical Scientist (Pit Production Program Engineer) you will:
- Conduct mission and program functional oversight which may include Work for Others; intelligence activities; production in support of specific weapons systems and/or components such as plutonium pits; Stockpile Stewardship Program execution; Nuclear Nonproliferation Program execution; Reliable Replacement Warhead Program execution, etc.
- Coordinate the technical and administrative aspects of assigned missions and programs and review and evaluate their progress to assure that work is performed in compliance with existing DOE / NNSA orders and regulations and in accordance with the appropriate Los Alamos Field Office and program guidelines and assumptions, interagency agreements, and within financial and schedule constraints.
- Be responsible for being alert and responsive to the needs, policies, and goals of the nation and held accountable for the success of individual and organizational pit production performance.
- Monitor progress towards organizational goals and periodically evaluate and make appropriate adjustments to such goals.
- Effectively develop organizational capabilities and integration of objectives to successfully maintain operational awareness, monitoring, integration, and periodic evaluation.
Must be able to obtain/maintain a Q level Security Clearance.

Qualifications
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service, i.e., NQ-03 or GS-14. Specialized experience is defined as: monitoring and establishing production performance measures and standards; evaluating contractor performance; managing performance related activities.

1) Establishes and enforces organization pit production performance measures and accountability standards.

3) Works with HQ Program Managers to manage the M&O performance related input associated with pit production and plutonium facility mission objectives.

Education
GENERAL ENGINEER (0801):You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2)include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.-OR-Have a combination of education and experience: college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. There are alternate methods to meeting the engineering educational requirement (e.g., holding current professional engineering registration, having passed the EIT examination, or having completed specified academic courses or a related degree).
