Summary

The incumbent serves as an International Broadcaster for the Pashto in the Afghan Service, with responsibility for conceiving, planning, researching, writing, and broadcasting original audio/video scripts of a highly complex nature and for providing Internet content for websites. Work requires fluency in reading and speaking Pashto and English. It requires knowledge, skills, and abilities in broadcast journalism such as writing, editing, interviewing, reporting, and broadcasting stories.

Duties

Help
  • Performs production, writing, and video editing functions for TV and digital media.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of Afghan and South Asia history and culture, and awareness of political, economic, and social developments in the region.
  • Knowledge of multimedia production principles, techniques and methods, programming, script writing and editing principles for TV.
  • Works closely with producers and editors to provide input and advice as to the best format or method to achieve the program objectives.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level that is in or directly related to this line of work AND fluency in English and Pashto languages that demonstrates ability to write, report, interview and announce broadcasts in both languages.

Applicants' resume MUST reflect the following experience in order to qualify:
- Produce and edit video programs from pre-production (storyboarding ideas, scripts, etc.) to post- production.
- Broad knowledge and comprehension of Afghan and South Asia history and culture, and awareness of political, economic, and social developments.
- Ability to separate factual material from opinion or commentary and to use each appropriately in crafting programs.
- Skill in acquiring, analyzing and comprehending information on extremely varied issues, topics, or events.
