Summary

Air University is seeking an experienced professional to lead the federal government's second largest research library. Overseeing a highly responsive team which serves over 150,000 students, the Director of Air University Library is charged with continuing to adjust service needs to meet new demands of its patron base. Initiatives accomplished recently include launching of a new Integrated Library System, a new digital archive, and an innovation lab with immersive learning opportunities.

Duties

Help

Connect the Air Force professional to authoritative and relevant information resources through knowledgeable experts, tailored library tools and scholarly publications. Directs an academic and research library program on behalf of the Commander, Air University (AU), for the schools, colleges, institutes, and centers of the university. Academic missions supported include pre­ commissioning and commissioning education, Military Education (ME), Professional Continuing Education (PCE) and graduate education, in residence and on a distributive learning basis.

Qualifications

Knowledge of librarianship and a broad educational background, ability to direct a major complex organization, expert judgment in resolving problems and making decisions, and high qualities of leadership and educational statesmanship.

Character consistent with the United States Air Force core values of Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. Significant leadership and management experience in a graduate-level accredited university. Knowledge of librarianship and a broad educational background, a broad knowledge of the organization and functioning of the federal government and especially the Air Force, ability to direct a major activity of Air University, expert judgment in resolving problems and making decisions, and high qualities of leadership and educational statesmanship. Skill in one or more functional areas of library science, to include knowledge of multi-information sources and access points and electronic information access, development and dissemination. Ability to plan a library program to meet the mission of the organization. Knowledge of leadership in the field of library science.

Education

Master's degree in Library Science or two full academic years of graduate education in an appropriate subject-matter field plus four years experience in an academic library setting is preferred

Additional information

The position will be an initial three year appointment with a one-year probationary period, with the potential for continued reappointment for additional 1-5 year terms. Following Air University's tenure and promotion policy, this position is tenure-track eligible.
