Duties

Help
  • Serves as a principal planner and advisor to the Office of Information Technology (OIT) top management, working with senior technical and managerial representatives in the development of integrated systems directives,
  • Develops standards, specifications, policies, implementation strategies, management guidelines, procedures, or practices and/or in new developments and advanced techniques in an IT specialty area.
  • Provides the full range of analytical, advisory, and support services related primarily to the review and analysis of critical systems issues and the development, implementation and oversight of major systems changes and initiatives.
  • Coordinates highly complex and sensitive projects that involve one or more of the following information technology specialties: communications and network services; customer support; data management.
  • Coordinates highly complex and sensitive projects that involve one or more of the following software engineering; and/or systems administration and analysis.
  • Represents OIG in meetings and discussions with industry representatives and private organizations in specialized areas of Information System Architecture, Information Resource Management, data base design.
  • Represents OIG in meetings and discussions with industry representatives and private organizations in data base design, data communications and mini/micro computer systems.
  • Leads the technical efforts in implementing state-of-art networking topology, other new technologies, and computer techniques within OIG that are coordinated with SSA, external governmental entities, and contractors.
  • Develops short- and long-range plans, applications systems, and procedures governing the direction of information technology initiatives within OIG.
  • Develops and presents analysis of controversial matters and performs confidential and sensitive assignments for the AIG, the Deputy AIG, Director or the assigned supervisor.

HOW TO QUALIFY::Eligible applicants must meet the following qualification requirements.

To qualify for the 2210 IT Specialist series, applicants must demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Additionally, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience as serving as a principal OIT systems specialist responsible for providing comprehensive and authoritative technical advice, consultation, and assistance on a comprehensive range of complex and sensitive systems activities/issues in OIG. The incumbent functions as a technical authority and advisor in the development of software applications; the analysis, development, and implementation of hardware standards; and the implementation of networking topology and technology that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of OIG's systems environment.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law. LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay.
