Duties

Help
  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
  • Verify personnel identification cards and badges through the use biometrics, automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Conduct Physical Access Control Systems registrar operations in order to enroll personnel into the system for the vetting and printing of visitor passes/badges.
  • Operate the National Crime Information Center and the Washington Criminal Information Center terminal in accordance with federal and state laws.
  • Distribute and balance the workload among employees.
  • Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have or able to obtain and maintain SECRET security clearance.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain an Individual Reliability Program (IRP) certification in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
  • This position Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program) and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and employee is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • This position requires the incumbent to undergo and pass a pre-employment and annually thereafter medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have successfully completed security guard training.
  • This position may require the incumbent to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass an entry level physical and annual re-certification of standard Army Physical fitness/agility test.

  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a prescribed uniform.
  • This position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential Position, incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved performing installation access, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets, recording visitor information and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. Acceptable specialized experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service(GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent(GS-06).
