  • Participate as a team member with the scientist in all phases of the research process and assumes full technical responsibility for specific phases of the research.

  • Select appropriate methods and procedures for carrying the project plan to completion.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

GS-05:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-05 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-04 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, researching and collecting biological data; following standard research procedures; and utilizing biological research equipment in a laboratory environment. OR
Education:
Successful completion of a four-year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. Related courses may include Horticulture, Genetics, Food Science or Plant Pathology. OR
Experience & Education: A qualifying combination of education and experience as described above.


GS-06:
Specialized Experience:
The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-06 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, assisting in an experiment or research project related to the study of plants by researching and evaluating biological data; following standard research procedures; and utilizing biological research equipment in a laboratory environment. OR
Education: One full year of progressively high level graduate education that included coursework that is directly related to this position. Related courses may include Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Plant Genetics and Genomics. OR
Experience & Education: A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.

GS-07:
Experience: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-07 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, participating in an experiment or research project related to the study of tree fruits by researching and evaluating biological data; adapting, modifying or developing new research techniques or procedures; utilizing biological research equipment to diagnose plant disease or fruit quality in biological samples; and preparing solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse. OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education that included coursework that is directly related to this position. Related courses may include Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Plant Genetics and Genomics. OR
Experience & Education: A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.

GS-08:
Experience: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-08 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, conducting research related to plants, soil, and insects; maintaining records of scientific data; experience using a variety of specialized laboratory equipment; and modifying research techniques and procedures when necessary. OR
Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a Master's degree, if directly related to the position. Related degrees may include Biochemistry, Plant physiology, or Plant pathology. OR
Experience & Education: A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.

GS-09:
Experience: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-09 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-08 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, conducting research on tree fruit or grapes; performing genetic research techniques; compiling and keeping records of scientific data related fruits; and analyzing data related to fruits. OR
Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree, if directly related. Related courses may include Horticulture, Genetics, Food Science or Plant Pathology. OR
Experience & Education: A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.
