Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Transportation Specialist, you will serve as Chief, Compliance Programs Division and will:

  • Develop a vision and plan for Compliance Programs division responsibilities that aligns to office, FTA, and DOT strategic goals.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Director in the areas of assigned responsibilities.
  • Direct the accomplishment of the Division's activities. Outline policy and overall program requirements and objectives, and coordinate and monitor the execution of assigned functions.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to staff for the long and short-term goals of the Division.
  • Provide program and policy guidance and participate in the resolution of controversial or sensitive issues as they arise.
  • Direct others in preparation of written work products and presentations. Review written work products, and ensure that they meet agency standards for clarity.

The Ideal Candidate is a senior-level professional with strong leadership skills, who has managed diverse staff, fostering teamwork, collaboration, and accountability; and with transportation industry experience in developing and managing complex, high priority programs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • PCS/RELOCATION/RECRUITMENT: Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Relocation, and Recruitment Incentive authorization varies by position/selection.
  • SUPERVISORY PROBATIONARY PERIOD: You must complete a one-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed).
  • TIME-IN-GRADE: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the competitive or excepted service in the executive branch to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications.

To qualify for the Grade 15, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include:

  • Experience in leading and managing a diverse staff of professionals, including developing strategic vision and work plans, reviewing work products, assessing performance, developing staff, and building consensus. 
  • Experience with developing and conveying technical information on transportation programs through presentations and briefings to executive leadership and external audiences.
  • Experience within the transportation industry in managing transit transportation operations, managing performance analysis, or managing policy development. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Decision Making - Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
  • Leadership - Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations.
  • Planning and Evaluating - Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
    Communication - Ability to communicate through presentations and briefings to executive leadership and external audiences to convey technical information on public transit programs.
