Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-14. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

As a Credit Policy Specialist, you will:
- Develop policies, standards, guides, and methods of credit and financial analysis for FHA for determining the acceptability of the insurance and procedures for evaluating the creditworthiness and financial capacity of borrowers under all single family sections of the National Housing Act.
- Resolve many special types of credit policy issues involving single family mortgages presented by field staff, lending institutions, and other housing interests.
- Interpret statutory requirements, administrative policies as well as procedures and methods of credit analysis and translate them into instructions for the FHA's Homeownership Centers and lending community.
- Provide expert technical advice and assistance on a wide variety of Single Family programs, credit policies and Direct Endorsement issues. Meet with business and industry groups as part of responsibilities to discuss changes in FHA underwriting procedures and requirements.
- Formulate training programs to be used for or by Single Family staff and provide assistance and guidance in their application.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:
For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Underwriting single family mortgages; AND
- Communicating and developing or directing the development of new or revised credit policies, procedures, standards, guidance or training for government-insured, -guaranteed or conventional single family home mortgage programs to diverse groups; AND
- Interpreting, implementing and providing technical guidance and responses on policies, procedures and regulations governing single family home mortgage programs.

For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Underwriting single family mortgages; AND
- Evaluating revised credit policies, procedures, standards, guidance or training for government-insured, -guaranteed or conventional single family home mortgage programs.

Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
