Summary

As an Electronics Technician in the Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) and Mission Systems Engineering Branch, you will be engaged in aeronautical and space research, and the design, development, test, and evaluation of basic sensing devices, transducers, components, and related circuitry for application to aerospace research and development endeavors. You will design, fabrication, assemble and test flight and ground components and systems through all developmental phases.

  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Design or lead design efforts for new or improved aerospace or aeronautical equipment for spacecraft, aircraft, rockets, power plants, transmissions systems, and communication networks, subsystems, components, hardware and software.
  • Serve as a technical expert for the design and definition of Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) systems and components for ground and flight use.
  • Provide expert technical input to engineers into the design of electronic and electromechanical parts and components.
  • Direct and perform fabrication of GNC components and harnesses for ground and flight use.
  • Apply knowledge of electronic fundamentals to the design, assembly, test, and troubleshooting of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) using mathematics, circuit simulation tools and CAD software
  • Develop and implement integration and test procedures to assure that hardware and software meets requirements, including environmental testing.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-10, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service
  • participating in the assessment of applicability of new electronics technology hardware and related software for Guidance Navigation and Control flight systems with consultation from Senior Engineers;
  • participating in the design, integration and verification and performance testing of Guidance Navigation and Control related systems and components for specific mission applications; and
  • performing work in soldering, crimping, bundling, and integration of cable assemblies and associated interconnections.

To qualify for GS-11, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service
  • performing work in electrical wiring harness fabrication that involves soldering, crimping, bundling, and integration of cable assemblies and associated interconnections;
  • assisting in the development and execution of test procedures for Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) hardware and software; and
  • providing design, integration and verification and performance testing of GNC related systems and components for specific mission applications.
To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service
  • conducting aeronautical and space research, design development, test, and/or evaluation of basic sensing devices, transducers, components, and related circuitry for application to aerospace research and development endeavors;
  • assessing applicability of new electronics technology hardware and related software for Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) flight systems with consultation from Senior Engineers; and
  • developing and executing test procedures for GNC hardware and software.
