Duties

Help

The candidate selected for this position will:

1. Supervise the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with the members of the news media and special groups interested in the agency’s programs, activities and services.


2. Provide technical authoritative advice and assistance to the COLAD Director in the areas of planning, directing and executing national media campaigns, including article placement that conveys complex information about PBGC’s programs, responsibilities and activities.


3. Develop performance standards and evaluate work performance of subordinates; give advice, counsel and instructions to employees on both work and administrative matters.

Qualifications

All qualification and eligibility requirements must be met by the announcement closing date.

Specialized Experience:  Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the private sector as a senior communications advisor for a non-profit entity, government agency, member of Congress or public corporation, with responsibilities for pitching stories and placing Op-Eds in national newspapers, securing interviews on cable news programs and talk shows, utilizing current social media platforms (e.g. Facebook and Twitter); and responding to questions for attribution from the news media, special interest groups and the general public on legislative and public policy initiatives. Examples may include: experience as a Communications Director, Press Secretary, Senior Communications Manager, Media Relations Manager, or National Congressional Correspondents working at publications.

NOTE:  You will be required to provide a writing sample, if contacted for an interview.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

1. skill in providing editorial, speech-writing and other communications support

2. skill in providing analysis regarding perceptions and attitudes of the media, pension interest groups and general public

3. skill in establishing performance metrics and developing performance plans, and evaluations
