Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent serves as a Motion Picture Preservation Technician in the Motion Picture Preservation Lab (RXMM) of the Moving Image and Sound Preservation Labs (RXM) within Preservation Programs (RX). The Technician will perform duties associated with inspection of original elements and digitizing original archival motion picture holdings, managing digital surrogates and creating technical/administrative metadata.

Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-08. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

- The Technician will inspect incoming and permanent motion picture holdings as well as additional inspection projects as requested by the archival unit, Presidential Libraries, and/ or Regional Archives.
- The Technician will digitize original archival motion picture records using computer hardware and software technology.
- The Technician will work on a range of projects, including routine inspection and digitization, and other moderately complex projects.
- The Technician will work with a range of original archival motion picture records such as nitrate, acetate, polyester, black and white and color original reversal, fine grain masters, original and duplicate negatives, prints, magnetic tracks, and magnetic stripe on film.
- The Technician will perform all playback, digitizing, color correction, audio and video processing, and quality control verifications independently

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-7: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes handling, inspecting, and digitizing archival motion picture film by utilizing a variety of hardware and software applications to obtain accurate representations of the original (i.e. color correction). Examples of such specialized experience should include:

- Experience handling, inspecting and repairing archival motion picture films;

OR

- Experience using motion picture playback equipment such as film scanners and applying digital audio and video techniques to the content.
