Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Statistician at the GS-1530-15 grade level, some of your typical work assignments may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans and executes surveys to include establishing general specifications and detailed time schedules governing: data content, collection, and dissemination; instrument design; analysis; and modifying systems design.
  • Selects and samples data.
  • Prepares reports and recommendations that reflect significant findings and solutions to important and unusual problems.
  • Presents original or derived data in most pertinent form, which may include text, graphs, charts, tables, and/or models.
  • Assigns work to employees.
  • Perform work related to the body of theory and methods used to collect, classify, and evaluate quantitative facts as a basis for inference; a body of techniques to obtain valid, measurable results from incomplete information, and a scientific system for describing, organizing, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting information in numerical form.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

A. Degree:
Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the education and/or experience required for the grade level(s) to which you apply.

To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must meet the following:

Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. You must have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:

  1. Supervising, leading or serving as a project manager of teams whose primary responsibilities are to conduct research and evaluate data quality;
  2. Utilizing statistical software to perform computer analysis of statistical data and finds; AND
  3. Communicating in written form by creating reports and recommendations of findings and solutions to problems.
