Help
  • Performs work involved in the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.

  • Must provide excellent customer service; requires frequent customer interaction while performing in various general maintenance trade practices.
  • Serves as a Contracting Officer Representative on small construction and service contracts.

Qualifications

OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that you possess the skill level that has equipped you with the particular job elements to successfully perform the duties of Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands:
The incumbent performs work and inspects jobs in difficult to reach areas which require physical dexterity to include pinching, grasping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and climbing. The access to areas may be in difficult to reach areas that are overhead, below grade, interstitial spaces, confined areas, crawlspaces, and high locations such as lifts and rooftops. Access to these spaces may require ladders, stairs, bucket trucks, cherry picker lifts, or other mobile man-lift equipment to perform duties that range from changing overhead parking lot lights to crawling through confined areas within buildings. These duties will require performance for long periods and may occur under all weather conditions such as hot, dry, wet, cold, and freezing conditions. In the performance of these duties the incumbent frequently lifts objects of up to fifty pounds in weight and over fifty pounds with assistance.

Work Environment:
The incumbent works frequently around infrastructure systems to include high voltage electrical, pressurized gases, high temperature water, and other potentially hazardous systems. Work environment may be indoor or outdoor to include freezing temperatures, high or low ambient
temperatures as well as wet, dry, icy, or snowy conditions. Work may occur during daylight or after dark conditions when special care must be taken.

Permanent Change in Station (PCS):
Travel and relocation expenses will be paid consistent with the Federal Travel Regulation, Chapter 302, and Departmental policy.   • Tax Law Impact for PCS: On 22-Dec-2017, Public Law 115-97 - the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 suspended qualified moving expense deductions along with the exclusion for employer reimbursements and payments of moving expenses effective 01-Jan-2018 for tax years 2018 through 2025. The law made taxable certain reimbursements and other payments, including driving mileage, airfare and lodging expenses, en-route travel to the new duty station, and temporary storage of those items. The Federal Travel Regulation Bulletin (FTR) 18-05 issued by General Services Administration (GSA) has authorized agencies to use the Withholding Tax Allowance (WTA) and Relocation Income Tax Allowance (RITA) to pay for "substantially all" of the increased tax liability resulting from the "2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" for certain eligible individuals.
