Duties

Help
  • Incumbent is responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
  • Set up and maintain visitor control roster and badges accountability log, which is subject to quarterly and annual reviews and inventories.
  • Determine fitness and grant access to those individuals that have met screening requirements and demonstrated a need to access the installation.
  • Record visitor information and purpose of visits, as necessary.
  • Inspect containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicles in the performance of all force protection duties.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Shift work is required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training. Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Uniform is required for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of personnel or property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life which involved using the appropriate protective systems and techniques and determining the type of action to take and level of force to use. Acceptable specialized experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service(GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent(GS-05).
