Duties

Help
  • Provide comprehensive advocacy assistance to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with military, state, and local action agencies to include attorneys, Rape Crisis Centers, Army Substance Abuse Program, and Chaplains
  • Maintain case files in accordance with established protocols
  • Coordinate and conduct professional level and administrative educational and interactive training workshops/seminars, and prevention and awareness activities and events
  • Manage sexual assault cases, to include conducting safety assessments and safety planning, follow-up and information and referral

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Mission Essential position.
  • This position requires off-duty hour support to include a 24-hour rotation for advocacy services to victims.
  • This position may require TDY up to 5%.
  • This position requires that the incumbent is able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position requires successful completion of a 7-week Sharp training course.
  • This position requires successful completion DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SMCP within 6 months of employment.
  • This position involves duties that are sensitive/ confidential in nature. Individuals background will be checked against records maintained by the following prior to appointment as indicated in the Additional Information section below.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Victim Advocate (SHARP):

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service which includes 1) providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment; 2) conducting assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; 3) recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services; 4) maintaining partnerships in the community and conducting training/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment.

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Science.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
