Duties

  • Responsibilities listed are at the full performance level.
  • Collect samples to test in order to conduct natural resources field studies.
  • Utilize computer programs to organize natural resource data for analysis.
  • Execute field projects to detect, identify, and/or evaluate natural resource problems.
  • Conduct analyses through field testing to detect natural resource problems such as water, land, food, plants, animals and soils.
  • Collaborate with team members during field projects to achieve objectives.
  • Resolve administrative and safety concerns related to a project according to prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records of all data and develop into statistical reports.
  • Compile natural resource data from aerial and ground surveys as part of a biological project.
  • Communicate routine information clearly in written communication.
  • Assemble summary information of natural resource plans and coordinate resources needed for information and analytical reports.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-05: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Utilizing topographic/GPS maps, photographs, and data that identify a variety of natural resource areas and conditions; using a variety of tools to collect and record data such as numbers, measurements, weights, samples, and special notes, and making determinations for easily identifiable corrective action; and preparing data summaries in proper format; OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics and at least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Analyzing natural resources information, and preparing reports of findings with appropriate recommendations; Utilizing topographic/GPS maps, photographs, and data that identify a variety of natural resource areas and conditions; Collecting samples and recording data such as numbers, measurements, weights, samples, and special notes, and making determinations, such as species identification, habitat condition, injury, disease; OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Detected, identified and evaluated natural resource problems; compiled and summarized data obtained from Ariel and ground surveys; collected samples, established test and control plots; and conducted routine analysis of natural resource data; OR one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
