This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number PDD1366000 and is part of the AZ 161st Air Refueling Wing, National Guard.
This position is located at the 161st ARW (Aircraft Inspection Section (Repair and Reclamation)) in Phoenix, Arizona. Its primary purpose is to inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft.
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 161st ARW.
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver?s license.
Newly hired employees and employees of the Arizona National Guard are required to be fully vaccinated by 22 November 2021 or before appointment or onboarding with the agency, if after 22 November, per Executive Order 14043.
May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
Qualifications
Military Grades: SrA/E4 - TSgt/E6
Compatible Military Assignments: Possess or are able to obtain the AFSC of 2A554 or 2A574
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

Knowledge to perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, post flight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections of electrical, fuel, hydraulic, environmental and mechanical principles in sufficient detail to perform the duties and responsibilities as applied to aircraft and supporting systems.
2. Knowledge to troubleshoot and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment.
3. Skilled to perform user and organizational level maintenance on assigned support equipment, including inspection, repair, modification, and ability to read and interpret technical instructions, plans, and schematic diagrams.
4. Ability to provide data for aircraft maintenance historical records, complete maintenance data collection, man-hour accounting, and other forms as required.
5. Ability to instruct, direct, and assign maintenance repair tasks to drill status guard members.
