As an Assistant or Associate Professor you will be responsible for developing and teaching courses in the Maritime Logistics and Security Program designed to provide midshipmen/students with the knowledge and skills required to manage complex maritime and intermodal supply chains and assist in the addressing of the security challenges facing the marine transportation systems.  You will be responsible for academic mentoring of Midshipmen, carrying out research and scholarly activities and assuming a share of departmental and institutional service activities. 

The Ideal candidate for this position is a highly motivated and experienced professional who possess a Master’s Degree or higher, teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher education, and industry experience in the related field to the position.

Highly Desirable:

  • Assistant or Associate Professor experience at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Recent teaching experience in Logistics/Supply Chain Management, Maritime Business, or Maritime Security
  • Experience in Maritime Transportation and Logistics Technology, Security Management, Homeland Security, Project and Operations Management, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Risk Management & Insurance, or
  • Recent Executive Management experience in the shore-side maritime industry and/or seagoing experience as a professional mariner
  • Demonstrated skill in developing and expanding relationships with the maritime industry and other professional organizations
  • Industry activity, leadership, ad participation in maritime business activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to a culturally diverse work environment
  • Demonstrated potential for outstanding applied research
  • Proficiency in working effectively, cooperatively, and flexibly in a team environment
  • Well organized and strategic thinker

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • TRIAL PERIOD: This is an Excepted Service position. This job will be filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive service. Applicants selected for an excepted service position may be subject to a two-year trial period.
  • PCS/RELOCATION/RECRUITMENT: Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Relocation, and Recruitment Incentive authorization varies by position/selection.

NOTE: This is a Full-Time Faculty Tenure-Track appointment in the Excepted Service, with an initial term not-to exceed 06/29/2024.  Reappointments to additional one or two year terms are possible.  If Tenure is achieved (after four to six years), employment will be made permanent, provided a satisfactory performance appraisal is received annually.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the experience and teaching requirements.

To qualify for a Nautical Science (Assistant Professor) position, you must have:

  • A minimum of one (1) academic year of full time teaching in a related field at the accredited college or university is required. However, this can be substituted with executive. management experience in the maritime industry and related logistics and supply chain fields.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of successful full-time industry experience required in transportation/logistics/supply chain management.

Education

The educational requirements for this position included a minimum of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Supply Chain Management, International Logistics, Transportation Management, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.  A Ph.D., or DBA is preferred.
