Summary

1. Selects, prepares, and edits content for a daily radio news TV show:
Keeps abreast of news events in the U.S. and world-wide to ensure comprehensive news coverage and radio programming.
Searches for and selects stories and packages from the News Center and other VOA sources, wire services, BBC, CNN International, and other news sources.
Reviews stories to make sure they are accurate and include the correct context for publication; makes appropriate revisions or requests revisions from original source.
Prepares scripts and edits scripts that were prepared by others.
2. Performs radio production and audio editing functions:
Creates a rundown, times the segments, and produces the show.
Ensures that all the production elements, packages, and related material in the show are accurate and shown in order.
Produces and/or directs live or pre-recorded studio or remote broadcasts and program segments.
Assigns writers, producers, and segment producers. Ensures that coverage by field reporters will include digital version of the report. Coordinates the incoming daily tape feeds and production elements in a timely fashion for television and all digital media platforms.
Performs final review of content and oversees final editing and feeding of the broadcast to affiliates through appropriate VOA producer.
3. Hosts and anchors the news program:
Prepares and delivers introductory and closing remarks and other continuity material to link together program ingredients.
Conducts interviews of experts, VOA reporters, government officials, analysts, newsmakers and other personalities.
Facilitates group panel discussions.
Researches topic to be discussed, prepares questions, elicits information from interviewees, edits the interview for content and time, and packages the interview for radio broadcast.
Develops and maintains a variety of sources and uses internet search tools to identify and contact individuals to be interviewed.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level that is in or directly related to performing a variety of broadcasting assignments involving reporting, writing and editing scripts, anchoring and hosting, and audio production and editing a daily English language news radio broadcast. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, the following specialized experience is required:
Mastery of broadcasting and production methods and techniques.
Mastery of radio, journalism, and broadcasting principals and methods to write, edit, and produce integrated, targeted, and balanced scripts and radio programs or program segments for a major international or national news organization.
Knowledge of world-wide audience's political, economic, cultural, social, historical, and religious conditions to effectively communicate with listeners.
Knowledge of American society, history, and institutions, and general understanding of U.S. foreign policy and goals, to prepare original scripts and produce audio content on complicated subjects, which are accurate, balanced, and comprehensive for a global audience.
NOTE: For the GS-13 grade level: Resumes must support one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the private, public, or federal sector of experience related to this position.
