Duties

Help

Major Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for clinical programming and daily operations of the Caregiver Support Program.
  • Assist with developing policies and procedures for program operation and prepares reports and statistics.
  • Work independently with multiple VA healthcare services and community agencies, leaders and organizations.
  • Develop and establish linkages and collaborates on VA caregiver support efforts with community healthcare and social service agencies.
  • Advise and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on caregiver support.
  • Consult for information on negotiating the complex processes caregivers, Veterans and families. Develop information library, flyers, resources, caregiver support information for distribution through the various inpatient/outpatient and specialty clinic settings. Educational material Is specific to the age group serviced in the clinic.
  • Coordinate and facilitate support groups, involvement, education and training of Veteran care.
  • Participate in patient centered care activities as needed or requested and participate in designated VA
  • Plan and coordinate the annual National Family Caregiver Support Month to include announcement, advertising month activities, flyers, and articles; mobilization of participants, educational sessions, caregiver recognition presentations and caregiver support fair.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/29/2019.Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work.
  • Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website.
  • Physical Requirements: VA Directive and Handbook 5019 states that applicants must complete a pre-employment physical with the possibility of a drug screen.
  • English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
Advanced Practice License: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. License must be included in resume and the date of issuance with state.

Experience: GS-12 Senior Social Worker Experience Requirement: To qualify for the GS-12 you must possess at least one year of experience that demonstrates the KSA's below. This experience must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. NOTE: GS-12 social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. GS-12 social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. GS-12 social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty.

KSAs:
1. Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
2. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
4. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
5. Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Typically, the employee will sit to do the work. However, there may be some walking standing, bending, carrying of light items, accessing transportation, and/or driving a government vehicle. The work requires patience and control of emotions. Work may require occasional use of appropriate techniques to physically restrain clients who present a danger to self or others

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
