Duties

Help
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, synchronizing, directing, and controlling all public affairs activities and programs for the district?s area of responsibility.
  • Acts as primary consultant and personal adviser to District Commander and executive staff, senior staff chiefs, other district staff, and public affairs staff in the district office concerning the public affairs program.
  • Plans, directs, and executes national, regional, and local programs to establish an effective two-way communication flow between the agency and its many diverse publics.
  • Prepares and distributes information to all employees.
  • Establishes employee milestones and monitors employee career development
  • Support, plan, coordinate, and execute internal newsletters, intranet content, retiree events, news clip services, speech writing, photo support and other activities.

  • Must complete a one-year supervisory probationary period to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time
  • This position requires to be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-12):

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Writing informational materials such as news releases, fact sheets, brochures, speeches, presentations; AND 2) Developing effective communications with print and broadcast media representatives; AND 3) Developing web and strategic e-communication plans and products; AND 4) Developing detailed analyses of public affairs activities.
