Duties

Help
  • You will process requests for information in regard to archives.
  • You will review, arrange, and/or preserve naval history records.
  • You will interpret, adapt, and utilize policies, guidelines, and regulations in regard to archive management.
  • You will provide reference and research services under Archival, Records Management, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) instruction.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices in the archival profession; and an understanding of the Federal laws and regulations, creation, organization, use and disposition of official and historical records, in performing duties that include most or all of the following: (1) Performing archival duties including accessioning, arranging, evaluating, indexing, describing and preserving records; (2) Communicating both orally and in writing with official, government personnel, and the general public and for the purpose of providing data on historical record and responding to inquiries; (3) Organizing, arranging, preserving and maintaining a major body of records to include references and related instructional materials; (4) Performing archival duties including accessioning, arranging, evaluating, indexing, describing and preserving records.

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices in the archival profession; and an understanding of the Federal laws and regulations, creation, organization, use and disposition of official and historical records, in performing duties that include most or all of the following: (1) Interpreting incoming requests in order to locate responsive records before release according to supervisory instruction; (2) Entering archive collection documentation into automated databases; (3) Preparing archival records, such as document descriptions, to allow easy access to information; (4) Using word processing software equipment to create, copy, edit and to make insertions or deletions of historical data.

Additional qualifications:

1) A bachelors degree (or higher) in archival science or bachelor's degree (or higher) with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history, and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government

OR

A combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses in archival science, history and/or political science or government, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

2) A good knowledge of basic archival principles, concepts, methods, and procedures.

3) A clear understanding of historical research methodology.

4) The value of various types of records for administrative, legal, and research use.

5) A skill in expository writing.
