Duties

Help

As a Buffer and Polisher, you will:

  • Provide die finishing options to create and enhance coin designs. The Buffer-Polisher is a key advisor when working with new designs on trial work dies for coinage programs, and they recommend design modifications to accommodate production challenges encountered in the finishing operation
  • Perform hand-operated buffers and polishers to achieve a level of detail and perfection that cannot be achieved solely using computer-controlled equipment.
  • Proof polishing methodology and daily production output while preparing trial strike dies.
  • Independently determine the polishing method required to achieve the desired results.
  • Operate Gerber BP-MX computer-controlled brushing-polishing machines to polish die surfaces to the very finest finishes.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.

Physical effort requires standing and sitting for long periods of time, using arms, fingers and hands to position, repair, store, document, locate, or dispose of equipment and material. The incumbent consistently handles machinery, equipment, tools, instruments, and material that weighs up to, and occasionally more than 10 pounds. The work also requires walking, stooping, bending, frequent lifting and moving of items that weigh up to 30 pounds.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be able to work all shifts on a rotational basis
  • May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
