About the Position: This is a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) position with the Kirk Army Health Clinic.
This Position Requires the Following Work Schedule: Monday to Thursday 0630 - 1800 and Friday 0630 - 1630.
Travel to both APG-North (Aberdeen, MD) and APG-South (Edgewood, MD) may occasionally be required.

Duties

Help
  • Perform the full range of receptionist and clerical duties to include entering and retrieving information and data from automated systems, and typing correspondence.
  • Notify appropriate staff of patients' arrival and appointment cancellations.
  • Refer patients to the appropriate sections of the clinic for appointments or treatments.
  • Provide customer service by explaining clinic/practice services, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure eligibility for care.
  • Respond to emergency calls and to notify emergency medical personnel as required.
  • Scan a variety of patient information into the patient medical record as directed by the medical team.
  • Relay physician instructions to patients.
  • Provide administrative support to the servicing call center to include scheduling appointments and answering general office inquiries.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary duty travel (TDY) up to 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent may be subject to a two-year probationary period unless probation has already been completed in accordance to 5 CFR criteria.
  • Incumbent may be required to work at both APG-North and APG-South as mission dictates.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position may require employee to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • A fully qualified typist is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - To qualify you for this position your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) scheduling patient appointments to include the time, date, and location of the appointment; 2) recordkeeping patient information to include medical documentation and health care provider information both electronically and on paper; and 3) communicating provider healthcare services and office policies to general public inquiries. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
