Duties

Help
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring the nutritional care plan for patients requiring standard level of nutrition care interventions.
  • Educating patients on drug-nutrient interactions.
  • Serving in formal or informal leadership positions, and advising and serving as a role model on professional practice, collaboration and effective communication.
  • Training new employees and retraining existing employees to expand skills to meet changing work environments.
  • Planning work schedules, reassigning workload, and consulting on complex problems.
  • Planning menu for complex diets, monitoring meals served for compliance with physician/protocol diet order, and managing the daily dietary needs of all patients.
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary planning meetings and acting directly with nursing to coordinate the meal service and standard level nutrition care needs of patients.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Health Technician (Dietetics) GS-0640 position at the GS-07 level, you must meet one of the following:

A. Completed 1 full year of progressively higher-level graduate education. This degree major must have been in a field of study with coursework directly related to the work of the position to be filled (i.e. food, nutrition or dietetics);

OR

B. 1 year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: implementing and monitoring the nutritional care plan for patients requiring a standard level of nutrition care interventions; performing nutrient analyses required for patient care; educating patients on drug-nutrient interactions; and assisting on training employees on dietetic procedures;

OR

C. A combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
