Duties

Help
  • Appropriately determine land ownership and status and to conduct research of lands records and related documents with on-the-job training, direction and guidance.
  • Utilize the Bureau?s automated land and records system and other applications to document a variety of realty cases of limited difficulty; collect, enter, manipulate, update, and maintain data according to Bureau and program standards.
  • Gather, process information and make recommendations on lands and realty actions such as rights-of-ways, communication sites, land acquisition/disposal, Recreation and Public Purposes actions, exchanges, permits, leases, withdrawals, and trespass.
  • Prepare and assist other resource specialists and industry personnel in developing environmental compliance documents for proposed actions which affect the lands program.
  • Functions as the lands program contact in interactions with the public regarding realty matters on public lands.

  • Selectees w/less than 3 years exp. as a Realty Spec. (GS-1170) are required to attend a 3-part Lands and Realty Academy at BLM's National Training Center. Failure to complete/pass this Academy may result in your termination.
  • This is a Bargaining Unit position.

To qualify at the GS-07 level: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: developing, maintaining and extracting files or performing file audits; gathering pertinent data; reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy; compliance with regulations; supporting budget and financial management and planning; experience communicating clearly and professionally both orally and in writing

Education: Successful completion of one full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position OR Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.

Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Physical Demands: The work is split between sedentary and physical. Because the employee may lead or often conduct on-site examinations, there is some walking, standing, bending, and requiring normal physical exertion. Onsite visits require physical ability to traverse remote rough country by cross country vehicle or by foot, sometimes in extreme climatic conditions to conduct field inspections. The field duties of this position require that the employee operate four-wheel drive vehicles on and off roads in isolated areas.

Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The work environment varies from an office setting to working outside in isolated areas under adverse weather conditions. The employee usually works alone while in the field. Temperatures in the field vary from minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Work in the office will generally be at a desk. The employee will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.

Travel and relocation expenses will not be paid by the Department of the Interior. Any travel, transportation and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
