Summary

The mission of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration's (TIGTA) Office of Investigations is to protect the Internal Revenue Service from internal and external threats and corruption that could negatively impact the IRS' ability to administer the nation's tax laws. We detect and deter waste, fraud and abuse in IRS programs and operations and protect the IRS against internal misconduct and corruption as well as external attempts to corrupt or threaten its employees.

Duties

Help

As an Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (Investigative Operations), you will:

- Render day-to-day executive supervision to TIGTA Special Agents-In-Charge throughout the nation; advising subordinate managers on policy matters; ensuring proper coordination of the various projects and activities; and communicating the results of investigative activities.
- Ensure day-to-day investigative operations are progressing toward planned goals, with particular attention to ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
- Provide assistance and executive leadership in developing and executing new and independent programs designed to prevent criminal corruption and other serious irregularities which can lead to fraud and abuse in the programs and operations of the IRS and Related Entities.
- Serve as the principal point of contact for investigative matters and coordinate investigative activities between Office of Investigations' divisions. Specifically, develop and maintain effective working relationships with executives and officials within TIGTA, Department of Justice and other agencies by frequent and recurring personal contacts. These contacts promote continuous communication to obtain, exchange, negotiate and determine necessary action concerning investigative activities, which are nationwide in scope.
- Work with the Deputy Inspector General for Investigations (DIGI), other Inspector General officials, and Treasury officials to ensure maximum utilization of diverse investigative disciplines in achieving TIGTA program goals and objectives; and render technical advice and counsel to agency managers and officials in response to program needs.

If you decline to disclose your vaccination status and fail to provide satisfactory proof of vaccination you will be treated as not fully vaccinated for the purposes of implementing safety protocols that are based on vaccination status at TIGTA.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Age Requirement: Incumbents selected for Criminal Investigator positions are covered under special law enforcement provisions. This requires that applicants not exceed the maximum age for entry. The date immediately preceding an applicant's 37th birthday is the final date for selection. The age restriction does not apply if you served in a Federal civilian (not military) law enforcement officer (FLEO) position covered by special civil service retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement.

Medical Requirements: The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to him/her, or others is disqualifying.

Please be advised the individual selected for this position will likely require certification by a Qualifications Review Board (QRB) conducted by OPM, prior to receiving the Senior Executive Service (SES) appointment. Your responses are required for each of the ECQs, unless you have had your ECQs previously certified by an OPM QRB for the SES. If you completed an SES probationary period, or did not have to serve one, and were removed for a reason that made you ineligible for reinstatement to the SES, you will need a new QRB certification.

If you already have been certified by an OPM QRB, submit proof such as a copy of the certification or an SF-50 showing SES Career Status. Your SF-50 should show a code 4 in block 34. If it shows a code 3, you must address the ECQs or provide a copy of the OPM certification.

Describe your experience with the Federal criminal justice system, including Federal criminal law, rules of criminal procedure, rules of evidence, and information needed to facilitate prosecution.
TPC2: Describe your experience leading and directing an organization that plans and conducts highly sensitive investigations or task force operations into allegations of criminal conduct, including complex impersonation schemes, white-collar crime, violent crime and cybercrime investigations.
TPC3: Describe your direct experience in managing highly sensitive investigations into violations of Title 26 of the United States Code.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Complete a pre-employment physical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
  • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.- Complete or have previously completed the course(s) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA
  • Sign a mobility agreement
  • Agree to work an average of two extra hours per day. Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) has been approved to compensate for unscheduled duty in excess of the 40-hour workweek.
