Duties

Help

As an IT Specialist (Policy/Planning), you will:

  • Develop IT-related solutions to business problems through advancements and achievements in OIG information technology infrastructure. Problem solve existing IT infrastructure issues. develop and deploy new IT infrastructure solutions through all phases of the project management lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain project plan portfolio for new and ongoing initiatives in the area of IT. Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and Policies for the ongoing management of IT programs, systems and processes. Provide reviews and submission of policies and projects that impact the OIG IT programs and systems.
  • Responsible for the design, testing and implementation of system program processes and troubleshooting, procurement and lifecycle management involve the maintenance or development of IT resources,
    software/application coding.
  • Design and plan software application solutions for the requested requirements. Coordinate system accreditation and cybersecurity issues to ensure development efforts support the environment in which application(s) are hosted.
  • Engage CIO staff and identify gaps and issues within the systems and conduct gap analysis within the identified areas.
  • Research and propose possible solution sets to aid mitigation of the identified gaps.
  • Work on development projects as assigned by CIO, in support of the identified gaps and solutions sets.
  • Writing software, documentation and operating manuals, mainframe computer job control systems.
  • Develop and lead testing and modifying systems to ensure that they operate reliably, conducting user support training, user and system testing, fault finding, diagnosing and fixing.
  • Coordinate with system administrators and managers to provide support and respond to feedback, identify user needs and developing efficient and effective solution sets.
  • Research and propose possible solution sets to aid mitigation of the identified gaps.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

GS-13: To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal, military or private sector. Examples of specialized experience include:

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of information technology (IT) assessment, planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation consistent with IT Program Management. Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture in an operational IT environment. Knowledge of development of agency wide policies and documentation efforts.

For all positions, individuals must demonstrate they have experience in each of the four competencies listed below.

  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3.   4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
