Summary
The Research Systems Integration Branch within the Research Services Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center is currently seeking applicants for a Chief of Aircraft Maintenance. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe completion of aircraft maintenance and modification on multiple type, model, and series of aircraft; conducting maintenance forecasting, planning, and prioritizing; and leading a team of technicians in the performance of aircraft maintenance and modification.
Current Langley Research Center federal employee serving on a career, career-conditional, VRA, Schedule A for individuals with disabilities, or NASA term appointment that provides eligibility to convert to a permanent appointment or a current NASA employee on a long-term rotational assignment to the NASA Engineering and Safety Center or the NASA Safety Center.
Leads a team of technicians in the performance of maintenance and modification on multiple type, model, and series of aircraft assigned to the Research Services Directorate. Ensures safe, efficient, and timely completion of maintenance activities.
Maintains expertise in aircraft maintenance programs and develops short and long range aircraft maintenance and modification plans.
Communicates maintenance forecasts to leadership and team members. Takes active measures to maximize aircraft availability for mission/project activity.
Works with branch and directorate leadership to establish and understand priorities, modifies aircraft maintenance plans as required, and communicates priorities and plans to team members.
Establishes a positive culture amongst team members through clear communication of organizational goals, objectives, schedules, and constraints.
Monitors team performance for compliance with requirements, policy, programs, and procedures outlined in policy documents. Takes active measures to ensure team is trained on and complies with maintenance programs and policies.
Maintains a thorough understanding of daily aircraft status and schedules to include monitoring of open work requests and upcoming scheduled maintenance tasks.
Ensures team members are assigned tasking daily to maximize efficiency and productivity, ensuring each member understands priorities and secondary tasking.

Qualifications
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
Performing aircraft airframe and powerplant maintenance to meet short and long range maintenance and modification plans;
Performing aircraft maintenance forecasting and planning to maximize availability for mission/project activities; and
Supporting the day-to-day operations of assigned aircraft to assure a state of operational readiness.
