Duties

Help

Duties for the Writer-Editor GS-1082-13 include but not limited to:

  • Prepares written materials to explain or present information on OAS activities in a manner suitable for the intended audience.
  • Writes, rewrites, or edits materials, such as reports of audit findings, statistical sampling plans, technical articles and manuals, presentations, brochures, and podcast scripts.
  • Develops writing courses for staff to help improve their report writing skills.
  • Presents recommendations to authors and editors from the perspective that changes are made in the best interest of OAS and the product being developed.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of various products, special reports, or analysis needed for congressional testimony, briefings, or special meetings.
  • Conducts a thorough review of manuscripts, reports, etc., to ensure that they meet DHHS and OIG standards for publication and dissemination.
  • Reviews and edits audit reports, correspondence, or other written materials; collects and analyzes information; verifies references; and suggests methods of presentation.
  • Provides authoritative advice and assistance to Regional office staff engaged in the preparation of various written materials, including but not limited to audit reports, correspondence, etc.

SPECIALIZED EXPERINCE GS-13
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience demonstrates the following:

(1) providing guidance and advice to other Writer-Editors and staff on technical writing and editing issues; (2) preparing written materials to explain or present information on an organization or on agency activities in a manner suitable for the intended audience; (3) conducting a thorough review of manuscripts and reports; (4) preparing or assisting in the preparation of various products, special reports, or analyses needed for congressional testimony, briefings, or special meetings; and (5) preparing special documents to update management on the status of products.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume should include the dates of all qualifying experience (from month/year to month/year) and the number of hours worked/volunteered per week.

Recruitment Incentives: Payment for relocation expenses are not authorized for this position. A recruitment bonus is not offered. Repayment of student loans are not offered. Private sector work experience will not be approved as credit for your Annual Leave accrual.

Security and Background Requirements: A background security investigation will be required for all appointees.
