Duties

Help

Performs a wide range of skilled equipment operation and maintenance at Reclamation facilities such as dams, power plants, pumping plants and related buildings and grounds.

  • Reads meters to obtain information such as data on tides and water flow. Uses established formulas to interpret data and determine water flow and velocities to maintain operating criteria by operating pumps, gates, valves and other controls to salvage fish.
  • Operates associated debris removal equipment such as but not limited to trash rack monorail cleaner, primary louver cleaner, trash conveyor and hydraulic sweep arm cleaning devices, and conducts disposal operations to transport entrained aquatic and other organic debris to onsite spoil fields for decomposition.
  • Operates hoisting equipment for the purpose of construction and maintenance but not limited to gantry cranes and overhead hoists.
  • Performs minor maintenance on pumps and other equipment such as valves, hoisting equipment and accessories, fish entrainment and handling structures and apparatuses, water hoses and waterlines.
  • Performs fish predator removals on a regular basis through angling, netting or chemical treatment.
  • Identifies potential hazardous wastes from the public navigable waterway that is entrained at the facility.
  • Performs fish counts, fish identification, fish length measurements, fin clipping, and fish larval sampling and produces hard and computerized data.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

You must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of application and is a condition of employment. Failure to maintain a Class B CDL will result in the termination of appointment.
You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
You will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment as a condition of employment. This position is also subject to random drug testing.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.

Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, valid Commercial Class B Driver's License. Failure to provide proof of such license will cause you to be rated ineligible for this position.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement.
