Duties

Help
  • Participate in planning and conducting cultural resource inventories.
  • Determine impacts to cultural resources.
  • Assist with conducting records and literature searches, archival studies.
  • Assist with pedestrian survey, site testing or excavation.
  • Provide preliminary recommendations on the significance of sites, structures, features or objects identified in surveys.
  • Draft professional resource forms, reports and studies.
  • Prepare documentation for submission to the State Historic Preservation Office and other stakeholders.
  • Collect and/or direct the acquisition of GPS data on cultural resource features.
  • Use GIS to produce and maintain maps and conduct analysis.
  • Conduct outreach and educational activities about cultural resources and values.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of cultural resource appendixes to environmental impact statements and other NEPA documents.
  • Observe contractor activities to ensure adherence to safety practices and requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a valid drivers license.
  • You must be able to obtain/maintain a USACE Boat/Vessel Operators license within 12 mos.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires working some evenings and/or weekends.
  • Occasional travel, up to 10% of the time, may be necessary.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination
  • You may be required to operate motor vessels up to 26 feet in length.
  • You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • This position requires an additional State Background Investigation.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualified applicants will describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in federal service with conducting cultural resource inventories, and determining impact to cultural resources in accordance with federal laws.
OR
You may qualify with education: successful completion of one full academic year of graduate-level education with major study directly related to this position, such as a graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
You may qualify with a combination of experience and education: computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total must be at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

  • This recruitment is for a Term position, not to exceed 13 months, extendable annual up to 8 years under authority of 5 U.S.C. 9902.
  • This modified Term appointment may later be converted to career conditional under authority of 5 U.S.C. 9902.
