Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee who has been appointed to an intern program with on-the-job training and guidance to further student technical development.

This positions will fill all positions for GS-1599, (Student Trainee) with all parentheticals

Post-secondary students may be noncompetitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment within 120 days of successful completion of their academic program requirements.

Duties

Help
  • Performs selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of Information Technology.
  • Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives.
  • Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects
  • Performs taskings which are designed to increase knowledge and skill in the Program Management field and related areas.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Competitive Service Student Trainee Positions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

For GS-03 grade level: Completion of 30 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.) in a qualifying field.

For GS-04 grade level: Completion of 60 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.) in a qualifying field.

For GS-05 grade level: Completion of 120 semester hours or more of post high school study leading towards a qualifying degree (i.e. associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc.) in a qualifying field.

For GS-07 grade level: Completion of 18 semester hours or more of graduate level education or completion of degree requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement and current enrollment in a graduate degree program

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Secretary of the Air Force has delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense to directly appoint qualified post-secondary students and recent graduates directly into competitive service positions; these positions may be professional or administrative occupations and are located Air Force-Wide. Positions may be filled as permanent or term with a full-time or part-time work schedule. Pay will vary by geographic location.

*** The term "Current post-secondary student" means a person who is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and is making satisfactory progress toward receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and has completed at least one year of the program.
