Duties

Help

The Educational Technology Specialist:

  • Provides technical support and expertise to faculty and staff in the application of instructional technologies, such as Blackboard, collaboration software, multimedia tools, presentation tools, and other instructional tools.
  • Provides technical support to faculty throughout course delivery including how to successfully execute course copies, create course shells, set-up of rubrics and grade center, and utilize other learning management system features.
  • Provides general support and assistance to the faculty in order to address online and classroom instructional technology queries and issues.
  • Under direction, maintains the hosted Blackboard Learn system to support online learning across campus.
  • Creates instruction videos and written instructions for the campus on procedures relating to the learning management system, teaching online, and content development.
  • Participates in vendor demonstrations and the development of resources, seminars, courses, and workshops.
  • Stays current with existing and emerging instructional technology trends.

The ideal candidate will have the knowledge of instructional design with respect to various instructional technologies with a vision toward future educational technology opportunities. The ideal candidate must be able to perform assignments of average difficulty requiring the application of fundamental principles, concepts, techniques, and guidelines relative to educational technology, and the knowledge the web-based Learning Management Systems (LMS) Blackboard. Duties will include providing training and technical support to faculty and staff, content evaluation, monitor usage, and generate reports for academy leadership as needed. The candidate will need to have knowledge of and experience with Student Information Systems (SIS) and the collaboration/ interfacing therein with the Blackboard LMS.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet either the education or experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the GS-09 on Experience, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-07 it must include:

  • Experience providing campus-wide support in various instructional technologies with an emphasis on the learning management system - principally Blackboard - student information systems, and student engagement systems.
  • Experience providing faculty consultations, training workshops, and other professional development opportunities to facilitate best practices with an emphasis on accessibility and excellence in on-line instruction.
  • Experience with both individualized and group support for faculty in use, implementation, and evaluation of the use of the Learning Management System (LMS).

To qualify for the GS-09 on Education alone, you must have 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or have been awarded a master's or equivalent graduate degree. You can also qualify based on a combination of graduate education and experience. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts, provided with your application.

Teaches Others - Helps others learn; identifies training needs; provides constructive reinforcement; coaches others on how to perform tasks; acts as a mentor.

Basic Requirements:

  1. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above.
