Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on public policies or scientific studies or surveys.
Consult on, monitor, and measure the outcome of assigned programs through studies that evaluate the effectiveness of subject activities in meeting the needs of program participants.
Analyze study or project implementation procedures for improvement, work with program specialists and/or scientists, to develop more viable implementation procedures, and coordinate with appropriate staff to make needed changes.
Plan and carry out quality control programs and select appropriate epidemiologic methods to be used in quality control analysis.
Provide scientific advice and technical assistance to various public, private, and/or nonprofit health and/or health-related agencies and organizations for complex programs or issues.
Provide advice and assistance in the development and implementation of procedures,
methods, and strategies for obtaining and using scientific data which describe the
prevalence of major health risks in an area, or the results of a scientific project or study.
Evaluate project or study data collection, quality control, and/or data utilizations
methods.
Provide scientific consultative services to difficult programs or projects that have
unusually demanding scientific problems or issues.
Assist in the writing of statistical and analytic reports from major studies or continuing projects that require the use of sociological behavioral science, demographic, and/or epidemiologic analytic techniques and evaluation.
Prepare comprehensive reports of national surveillance system analyses which include discussion of substantive health issues and research objectives.
Participate in the syntheses of social science and epidemiologic data to be applied toward designing effective prevention programs and practice guidelines.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include designing, overseeing, implementing and/or conducting epidemiological studies related to public health..
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
