Duties

Help

CBOs Labor, Income Security, and Long-Term Analysis Division is seeking one or more labor economists to conduct research and analysis for the divisions Labor, Education, and Income Security Unit.
Analysts in the Labor, Education, and Income Security Unit conduct research and analysis on topics such as labor markets, income, poverty, cash and in-kind assistance programs, education and training, and immigration. For example, the unit is currently analyzing the demographic and economic characteristics of immigrants and the incidence of federal transfer programs. Recently completed work analyzed federal student loan repayment patterns, compared federal and private-sector compensation, and evaluated how changing the minimum wage would affect employment, family income, and the federal budget.
The new labor economist(s) will contribute to the full range of the units responsibilities. Staff members are encouraged to actively participate in policy research related to CBOs mission by presenting papers at conferences, circulating preliminary research through CBOs working paper series, and publishing in professional journals.
The economists will have opportunities to participate in policy research related to CBOs mission by presenting papers at conferences, writing CBO working papers that introduce preliminary research, and publishing articles in professional journals.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field or a masters degree and at least five years of relevant work experience. The position also requires the following:
Strong quantitative skills, including experience with large data sets;
Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly explain analytic results to other CBO staff, Congressional staff, and Members of the Congress;
A demonstrated ability to initiate and complete research projects both independently and collaboratively;
Facility with handling multiple projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines; and
A desire to contribute directly to the analysis of federal policy in a nonpartisan setting.

Education

EDUCATION:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field, or they must have a masters degree and at least five years of relevant work experience.
