Summary

Performs individual, marital/couples, family, and group psychotherapies for children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of acute and chronic mental health problems including depression, suicide ideation/attempts, bereavement, psychotic episodes, family conflicts, substance abuse or dependence, and trauma resulting from violence or abuses of emotional, physical or sexual nature.
Coordinates service provisions to patients and consults with professional colleagues as needed to promote optimal patient care.
Utilizes knowledge of a wide variety of theories used in counseling and psychotherapy.
Provides referral, intake, diagnostic, treatment, crisis intervention, and consultation services for mental health patients.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-9: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provide appropriate and therapeutic services to patients; providing consultation and technical assistance on prevention and educational information of suicide, behavioral health practices, and program development; complete mental health evaluations and/or assist in alcohol or treatment referrals.
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Coordinate mental health/substance abuse services, assess needs, plan for and implement improvement programs; perform Case Management functions for substance use disorders and mental health issues for individual patient and family system utilizing various resources; provide accurate documentation patient history and progress, services provided, and/or other required information.
Selective Placement Factor: Must possess licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) - Mental Health (MH) or possess equivalent licensure or certification to provide independent behavioral health services.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
