Duties

Help

As a Epidemiologist, you will:

  • Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on public policies or scientific studies or surveys.
  • Analyze study or project implementation procedures for improvement.
  • Participate with scientists and program consultants both in various aspects of the study or survey design process
  • Conduct a search or review of the existing literature and data in a scientific area and prepare and/or present summaries for a variety of purposes.
  • Monitor internal review board clearances.
  • Design questionnaires and other data collection instruments.
  • Identify and analyze public health issues and their impact on public policies or scientific studies or surveys.
  • Provide scientific advice and technical assistance to various public, private, and/or nonprofit health and/or health-related agencies and organizations.
  • Assist in the writing of comprehensive statistical and analytic reports that require the use of sociological, behavioral science, demographic, and/or epidemiologic analytic techniques and evaluation, and application of the latest technology.
  • Work with public health officials and other scientists inside and outside of CDC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications GS-11:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience contributing to planning, managing and evaluating various epidemiology projects.


OR

I have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related.

OR

I have a combination of experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-12:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience with planning, managing and evaluating various epidemiology projects.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
