This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Division of Child, Adolescent & Family Health. This position is 100% virtual and the US location is negotiable after selection.

The selected individual may work anywhere in the United States. Work sites outside of the U.S. are prohibited. Your salary will be based upon the locality pay of your work site after selection. The final salary will include the locality pay based on the selectees location and may include additional compensation through Physicians Comparability Allowance (PCA) for up to $30,000 per year.

Physician positions are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are responsible for formulation of policy and programs administered by Health Resources and Services Administration to provide advice and assistance to Bureaus, Department of Health and Human Services, and other Federal entities as related to the medical aspects of primary health care programs for underserved populations.

Major Duties:

As a Physician you will be responsible for highly complex and/or difficult decision making, including providing guidance related to latest developments, evidence-based interventions, system integration solutions, and policy innovations in the areas of pediatrics, pediatric emergency care, pediatric emergency preparedness, pediatric translational research, and/or pediatric epidemiology and surveillance.

Your major duties and responsibilities include:
  • Identifying and analyzing major public health pediatric emergency preparedness issues and participate in the formulation of programs, intervention strategies, performance measures, and evaluations to advance, improve, and expand of pediatric every day and disaster emergency preparedness.
  • Leading stakeholder engagement to identify gaps, advance evidence-based programs, reinforce the impact of ongoing activities, and develop innovative broad reaching programs and policies that further MCHB's vision and approach to achieving optimal emergency health care for children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Supporting the development of and participating in a high-functioning and well-coordinated multidisciplinary team that supports the EMSC Branch Chief to ensure the highest level of program accountability and efficacy in directing programs of national significance that inform the agency's mission and result in significantly improving access to high-quality essential preventative health programs, which impact a large proportion of our nation's children, adolescents, and young adults.
  • Developing concise, well-informed policy briefs, options memos, and other communications in coordination with representatives with the Division, Bureau, agency, and other agencies within HHS and the Federal government that have related interests, activities, and program goals.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

PLEASE NOTE: Failure to provide any of the required documentation (education, licensure, and board certification) will result in you being rated ineligible for this position.

EDUCATION: A copy of your unofficial transcripts, ECFMG certification, or verification of your successful completion of the US Medical Licensing Examination is required as part of your application by the closing date of this announcement. If selected, official transcripts will be required.

Degree: You must have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Medical School: You must provide a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school which must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country.

OR

Documentation that verifies successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

AND

GRADUATE TRAINING:Your resume must clearly indicate the starting (MM/YYYY) and ending dates (MM/YYYY) and where the training was completed.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below:

An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.

For this GS-15 level position, you must have five (5) years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled OR equivalent experience and training. Appropriate specialties are those related to the position being filled such as Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

LICENSURE REQUIREMENT:

You must also have an active, permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. You must provide a copy of your current/active license with your application by the closing date of this announcement.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: In order to meet the basic qualification requirements for this position, you must be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Medical Specialties (A.B.M.S) in at least one of the following primary care disciplines:

  • Pediatrics
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Pediatric Emergency Medicine
