Duties

Help

Administer a sail and/or powerboat training program for patrons on Naval Station Newport throughout the boating season. 2. Develop, review and implement curriculum designed to introduce novices to watersports in a safe, enjoyable way and hone more advanced individuals skills. 3. Schedule classes, check rides, etc. as needed by demand. 4. Coordinate Instructors to support scheduled classes. 5. Pursue relevant partnerships with appropriate state agencies. 6. Provide recommendations and assistance to marina manager in day to day operations when/if needed.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate possess the following:

Incumbent should have a working knowledge of sailing procedures and ability to instruct sailing and power boat techniques. Incumbent should have a small boat sailing instructor qualification from US Sailing or equivalent, e.g., US Navy MWR Instructor Certification OR documented local sailing instructor certification equivalent OR US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructor Certification OR Basic Keelboat Instructor Trainer Certification OR other Nationally recognized organizations (the American Sailing Association (ASA) and US Coast Guard certification). Two years experience in teaching and leading groups. Experience in operating small power boats. Must be a mature individual who is professional and capable of exercising control of group of people
