  • Duties listed represent the full performance level of the position.
  • Participates as a team member with the scientist in all phases of the assignment(s) and assumes full technical and operational responsibility for specific phases assigned.
  • Provides input into the initial planning of experiments.
  • Independently develops or designs various aspects of the projects on the basis of overall objectives outlined by the supervisor
  • Contributes to the planning of various experiments or projects steps and to the interpretation and documentation of findings.
  • Constructs, assembles, installs, operates and maintains a variety of highly specialized complex scientific equipment/instrumentation.
  • Develops variety of procedures, devises new or improved methods or designs specialized equipment.
  • Keeps exact, detailed records of experimental data.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Specialized Experience for the GS-07: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-07 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, installing, maintaining, or repairing engineering equipment related to agriculture or infrastructure; using electronics and instrumentation for collecting field research data; and assisting in preparing or summarizing results obtained through field and laboratory research.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher-level graduate education in a related field. Related fields may include Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Technology Management, Agricultural Engineering Technology, Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Systems Technology, Electrical Engineering or other related degrees.
OR
A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.

Specialized Experience for the GS-08: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-08 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent,performing technical work including operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical or mechanical systems in support of agricultural research; calibrating laboratory and field equipment to collect and evaluate data including precision agricultural technologies such as GIS or GPS systems; and summarizing data to be used in reports.
OR
Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree that is directly related to the work of the position. Related degrees may includeAgricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Technology Management, Agricultural Engineering Technology, Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Systems Technology, Electrical Engineering or other related degrees.

A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.

Specialized Experience for the GS-09: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-09 grade level includes one year specialized experience at the GS-08 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, recommending solutions to technical work that involves operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical or mechanical systems in support of agricultural research; preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for modifications to technical systems; managing multiple projects using high-level computing, statistical analysis, and computing language programming; and writing reports and/or publications.
OR
Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree that is directly related to the work of the position. Related fields may include Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Technology Management, Agricultural Engineering Technology, Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Systems Technology, Electrical Engineering or other related degrees.

A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.
