Duties

Help

Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in the efficient and effective operation of the golf maintenance program witch includes: golf course greens/tees, practice areas, ranges, irrigation systems, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, desert areas unused acreage and maintenance vehicles and equipment. Assists in planning of all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve maintenance standards and long-range goals. Diagnoses deficiencies relative to soil disease, desiccation, winter kill, erosion and impact or error in maintaining a complex mix of soil and plant needs for greens, fairways, roughs, trees, scrubs, foliage, ground covers and ornamentals. Assists in budgeting for equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain golf course properties. Has direct day-to-day line authority over personnel and work operations. Plans and organizes in-service training programs to include safety and the proper methods and uses of motorized turf equipment and application of plant control products.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Progressively responsible experience in golf course maintenance, which provides a technical knowledge of turf propagation, cultivation, course equipment and mechanics, irrigation and drainage systems and controls, horticulture and insect/pest control and various turf diseases and remedies. Knowledge of personnel management principles and policies sufficient to supervise and direct a staff of ground maintenance employees. Knowledge of golf course construction and golfing techniques. Class C rating from the Golf Course Superintendent's Associate of America is highly desirable.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
