The Internship Program is for current students. If you’re a current student in college, trade school or other qualifying educational institution, you may be eligible. Currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.

Duties

Help

Interns will work with higher graded technical and professional staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience that augments training in an academic course of study. Positions are outside the bargaining unit, and assignments are designed to provide orientation, training, and familiarization with the work processes of BLS. Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • -Performs basic tasks using equipment or software to support IT Specialists or other higher-grade personnel.
  • -Carries out specific tasks of limited scope and complexity which are generally minor phases of a larger project or assignment utilizing basic methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • -Participates in the development and maintenance of data bases.
  • -Checks data for completeness, validity, and consistency; corrects erroneous data.
  • -Revises and/or updates existing programs per instructions.
  • -Assists with the troubleshooting and maintenance of computer related communications services

This is a temporary student internship appointment, not to exceed 12 Weeks. Appointment may be extended in up to one-year increments.

Applicants who graduate from their degree seeking programs in Spring 2022 can be considered for internships only if they are enrolled and/or accepted for enrollment in the Summer 2022 or Fall 2022 semester in a proceeding degree seeking program.  If you do not provide proof of summer or fall enrollment, you will not be considered.

Appointee must be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service upon completion of the Pathways program.

Notification Concerning COVID-19 Vaccinations.  As required by Executive Order 14043, Federal executive branch employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee's duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law.  If selected, you will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and to submit documentation of proof of vaccination or to be in the process of requesting an exception to the vaccination requirement before appointment or onboarding with the agency.  The agency will provide additional information regarding which forms of documentation can be accepted and how you can request to be considered for a legally required exception from this requirement.

Qualifications

ALL PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT:

To be eligible for the DOL Pathways - Summer Internship Program, an individual must be enrolled and seeking a degree (e.g., diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution/program on a full or half-time basis for the upcoming SPRING 2022 semester. Additional proof of enrollment for the upcoming SUMMER 2022 or FALL 2022 semester will be required before a final job offer can be extended. Possess and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on the unweighted 4.0 scale. GPA is based on current enrollment. 


TRANSCRIPTS or other applicable education documents (e.g., acceptance letter) are required at the time of application to verify program eligibility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree education above high school.

Transcripts/Enrollment documents submitted at time of application MUST include:

    • Unofficial Transcripts must state the student's name, name of the school, current GPA/academic standing, past and current coursework with credits for each course, enrollment status, degree program, and proof of enrollment for the Spring 2022 semester.
    • If your school's transcripts, letter of acceptance, or other documentation does not provide all the necessary information listed above, you should include additional official academic documentation that meets the requirements.
    • If you are a graduate level student, you should also submit your undergrad transcripts with your application.

If you do not submit a transcript indicating your possession of the required education, you will not be considered for this position.

To be eligible for appointment, you must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution, for the purpose of obtaining a diploma, degree, or certificate. Current students must have a grade-point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. If appointed, you must maintain a 2.0 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale throughout the duration of the internship. You must submit with your application a current academic transcript and/or other official documentation from your academic institution demonstrating your eligibility for appointment.

In addition, if you wish to use your education as a basis for meeting the minimum qualification requirements for this position, you must submit academic transcripts demonstrating that you meet the qualifying educational requirements. If specific course work is required to fulfill the minimum qualification requirements, you must supply transcripts from each academic institution in which the required courses were taken in order to receive credit for that course work. Schedule: Interns are eligible to work Full-time (40 hours per week) or Part-time (16 to 32 hours per week).


Duration of Appointment:

    • Summer Intern appointments begin May/June 2022 and will not exceed September 30 2022.
    • Summer Intern appointments may be extended beyond the not-to-exceed (NTE) date at the agency's discretion.

Conversion Eligibility:

At the agency's discretion, a Summer Intern (Temporary Intern) may be non-competitively converted to an excepted service Pathways Permanent (year-round) Intern appointment;

OR

At the agency's discretion, a Summer Intern (Temporary Intern) may be non-competitively converted to a permanent or term position in the competitive service after all requirements for conversion have been met.

Position Telework eligibility is determined by management based on position duties during the recruitment process. Employee participation in telework on a routine or situational basis is determined by management primarily based on business needs.  Employees participating in telework are subject to the terms and conditions of the Department of Labor’s Telework Program.
