Summary

In this position, you will serve as an advanced trainee and is responsible for providing technical support to the National Program Leader(s) throughout the complete program funding process.

Duties

Help
  • Provide administrative or technical support to a research, education or extension project/program related to biological, behavioral, or social science.
  • Participate as a member of a team conducting research, education or extension activities related to biological, behavioral, or social science.
  • Actively participate in research, education, and extension activities and issues related to biological, behavioral, or social science.
  • Apply knowledge of recent developments and research techniques used in biological, behavioral, or social science to analyze and interpret information.
  • Assist in performing impact evaluation of programmatic data.
  • Assist in maintaining a database tracking system that includes items such as milestones, deadlines, budgets.
  • Collate information, track programs and projects, prepare reports, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of information transfer among documents and database systems.
  • Assist in tracking and monitoring program effectiveness.
  • Write news releases, educational or outreach materials, feature articles, briefings, fact sheets, and other publications covering technical or complex issues under tight deadline pressure.
  • Assist in preparing and editing text that includes incorporating graphs, charts, etc., to communicate a wide variety of program information.
  • Make formal presentations in the many settings or audiences such as Decision-making groups, Advisory groups, public meetings, Focus groups, Professional meetings/conferences, Training sessions or seminars, Workshops, or Congress.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with others to exchange program-related information and resolve problems.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Basic Requirements:

0401 Series:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience:
Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

0101 Series:
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience --
that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience
that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

AND

In addition to the basic requirements above, all applicants must also meet the following minimum qualification requirements:

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing a variety of recurring professional, scientific, or technical tasks; performing scientific analysis; and technical writing in support of assigned projects.
OR
Education:
2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Related degrees may include plant pathology, animal science, food safety, food science, nutrition, positive youth development, agricultural economics, and environmental sciences.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
