Summary

The Office of Communications (OCOMM) Enterprise is seeking early career professionals to support OCOMM leadership and team members at various locations. Typical assignments will include day-to-day logistical and administrative needs, editing support, provide written products, and staffing support for public outreach events. Ideal candidates will have strong management, interpersonal and analytical skills demonstrated through academic coursework and/or work experience.

  • Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
  • Manages daily office operations including, but not limited to, placing supply orders and purchase requests, maintaining organizational calendars, processing travel requests, and managing visitor requests (both U.S. and foreign national).
  • Supports planning and coordinating special events, such as Town Halls and special recognition meetings; collaborates with stakeholders and ensures all logistics are met.
  • Coordinates and participates in outreach events in the form of presentations, demonstrations, informal gatherings, and using virtual, in-person, and hybrid events.
  • Works closely with and supports writers, editors, leadership, and specialists on a wide-range of communications projects, both internal and external.
  • Supports production of the Office of Communications internal newsletter, including collection of information, development of stories, publication and distribution to workforce.
  • Writes and edits copies for informational materials and images; assists in creating storyboards, scripts, and producing promotional videos.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-07, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level

  • performing office operations to include maintaining schedules, ordering supplies, managing tasks, or collaborating with external offices;
  • writing/editing email, memoranda, or other communications products.
OR
b) Completed 1 full academic year of graduate study in an appropriate field
OR
c) Completed a bachelor's degree and meet Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) criteria. SAA: (1) you must be in the upper third of your graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision; or (2) you must have a 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 GPA; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 GPA based on courses completed in your major field of study during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society
OR
d) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study in an appropriate field

To qualify for GS-09 level, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level
  • coordinating day-to-day administrative functions to include issuing and tracking administrative tasks;
  • creating written communications, such as brochures, pamphlets, or web articles, to reach internal and external audiences;
  • supporting public affairs activities such as outreach events, media escort, and internal communications.
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field
OR
c) Completed 2 full academic years of progressively higher graduate education in an appropriate field; or LL.B or J.D, if related
OR
d) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b) and c) above

Note: Preferred majors include, but are not limited to: business, communications, public relations, digital media, brand management, mass media communications, public affairs, liberal arts, film and tv production, graphic design, advertising, journalism, English and composition, marketing, and/or education.
