Help

As a/an Supervisory Accounting Specialist, you will:

  • As the Deputy Director of the Office of Financial Services, this Supervisory Accounting Specialist serves as a principal financial advisor to the Office Director, the Housing-FHA Comptroller, and other Housing Headquarters and Field Office managers on matters pertaining to financial management and fiscal servicing functions that support FHA's multibillion-dollar mortgage insurance programs, including: Endorsing FHA loans for single family homeownership, multifamily housing, and healthcare facilities.
  • Maintain the insurance-in-force records for the FHA programs, including processing mortgage record changes and loan terminations. The FHA Single Family programs have a loan portfolio of approximately eight million mortgages. The combined FHA Multifamily Housing and Healthcare Programs loan portfolio consists of over 15,000 mortgages.
  • Bill and collect mortgage insurance premiums. This is the largest source of income for FHA's five insurance funds. Nearly $14 billion in premiums is collected annually for FHA Single Family loans and more than $460 million in premiums is collected annually for FHA Multifamily Housing and Healthcare Programs mortgages. The incumbent monitors premium billing and collection processes to ensure the accuracy of rates, and conducts portfolio reviews of lenders to identify trends, issues, controls, and risks.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
- Supervising a team of employees and monitoring their progress towards achieving program goals and objectives; AND
- Completing a wide range of assignments involving the origination or servicing of Federal housing mortgage program loans; AND
- Providing training and technical assistance to co-workers and customers on matters related to mortgage loans; AND
- Preparing comments on policies, system requirements, position papers, or responses to audits; AND
- Performing on-going evaluations of the overall performance of a financial organization resulting in recommendations to improve its overall operating efficiency and effectiveness.

Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
