Duties

Help

At the full performance level (GS-11) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Perform acquisition and back-up services to provide mine map collection.
2. Serve as the project coordinator for in-house, contractual, or co-operative processing of large collections of mine maps for photomicrography and scanning.
3. Perform or leads the archival of mine maps obtained from many sources in accordance with guidelines established by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), OSMRE, EMMSB, and the National Mine Map Repository (NMMR).
4. Generate mine map scans on various media for archive centers and State repositories.
5. Respond to inquiries from the general public and representatives from local, State, and Federal agencies, consulting firms, private coal and non-coal operators/companies, non-profits, and realtors working to identify mining hazards.

The OSM has determined that the duties of these positions are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

Salary Information
GS-09: 56,469 - 73,411 per year.
GS-11: 68,323 - 88,815 per year.

First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

These positions are also announced at the GS-07 grade level as OSMRE-22-ETA-012(ACWA) for those applicants who wish to apply and be considered under Competitive Examining procedures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for this position you must meet A, B, or C as described below.

GS-09
Education:
A. Degree: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: A qualifying combination of post-baccalaureate education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position

OR

C.Specialized Experience:
To qualify for the GS-09, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) Archiving records and handling paper map documents in accordance with the National Archives and Records Administration guidelines. 2) Operating a geographic information software such as ArcGIS, or equivalent. 3) Utilizing an image editing software and map and/or microfilm scanner to archive documents. 4) Interpreting and understanding basic geology, coal seam designations, Public Land Survey System (PLSS), and latitude/longitude concepts. MUST MEET ALL.


GS-11
Education:
A. Degree: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M or equivalent. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: Education in excess of the first two years of progressively higher-level graduate education toward a Ph.D. or the equivalent doctorate degree may be used toward this combination (example: 2.5 years in a Ph.D. program (50%) plus 6 months of specialized experience (50%) = 100%).

C.Specialized Experience:
To qualify for the GS-11, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) Archiving records and handling paper map documents in accordance with the National Archives and Records Administration guidelines. 2) Operating a geographic information software such as ArcGIS, or equivalent. 3) Utilizing an image editing software and map and/or microfilm scanner to archive documents. 4) Interpreting and understanding basic geology, coal seam designations, Public Land Survey System (PLSS), and latitude/longitude concepts. 5) Communicating with customers and team members, to provide information and resolve issues.
